When we become dependent on a substance, we create chemical and physiological changes to our minds and bodies.
When substance abuse becomes a crucial part of the body’s natural process and we are unable to function without that substance, we are stuck in the vicious cycle of addiction. Detoxification occurs when we no longer use these substances and the body begins cleansing itself of them. It’s the first step in recovery!
At Pathways Recovery Center, we can provide a safe and comfortable detoxification process. Withdrawal from drugs and/or alcohol can be a dangerous process. We’ll help you get through this difficult time with the assistance of our on-site LVN who will monitor your health closely and provide you any medications needed to facilitate this difficult transition. The PRC team has the experience to guide you through alcohol detox, opioid and heroin detox, meth detox, and many other narcotic detoxes.
Detox can be tough, but it’s the beginning of a new life and a new freedom from addiction!
What is Detox?
Detoxification is the body’s process of removing toxic substances and is the first step in a successful recovery from substance abuse. The purpose of Supervised Detoxification is to manage unpleasant and sometimes dangerous withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes medications are used in order to stabilize patients and prevent withdrawal symptoms from escalating to the point of a medical emergency. Pathways Recovery Center’s goal in detox is to reduce the potential of harmful physical effects and withdrawal symptoms after long periods of substance abuse.
Why do I need Medically Supervised Detox?
The process of removing addictive substances from your body can bring about a lot of physical and mental discomfort. Detox from certain substances, such as alcohol or heroin & other opioids, can be dangerous and cause life-threatening symptoms like seizures and severe dehydration. Medically assisted Detox provides you 24 hour monitoring and access to medications that can help ease the detox process. Under our medical supervision, you can be assured the safest and most comfortable detox, while the Pathways Recovery Center treatment staff and counselors help guide you to the next step in your recovery.
Statistically, Supervised Detox puts you at a greater advantage over relapse. Detoxing on your own can be very difficult when you experience strong withdrawal symptoms or are still exposed to things in your home environment that trigger you to return to using. Medically Supervised Detox means a detox experience that is safely guided by professionals in a therapeutic environment, where you can lay the foundation for recovery.
How Does Detox Work?
Our Medically Supervised Detox plan is designed to ensure the safest and most comfortable detoxification that is possible, while ensuring that your treatment plan fits your individual needs and goals. We accomplish this in 3 steps:
1
Evaluation
Our licensed clinicians and treatment staff will perform various assessments to determine the scope of the addiction and the expected severity of the detox process, in order to create an individualized treatment plan.2
Stabilization
Our on-site LVN and nursing staff ensure medical stabilization and comfort while administering any prescribed medications and necessary therapies.3
Preparation
Entering long-term treatment provides the best chance of sustained recovery by decreasing the chances of relapse considerably. Detox is the first step to overcoming addiction, but it doesn’t treat the psychological issues that have driven a person to addiction. Pathways Recovery Center’s experienced staff prepare clients on what to expect in the Residential Inpatient phase of treatment.
How long is Detox?
Detox can typically last from 3-7 days, depending on a few factors:
In most cases, any life-threatening symptoms will have subsided in 7 days. Milder symptoms such as anxiety, headaches, insomnia, and depression can linger for much longer. Cravings can last for months, which is why it is imperative to enter treatment after detox. You can learn to overcome those cravings and find freedom from your addiction at Pathways Recovery Center!
